Victor Dollard Gobeil
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved Victor Dollard Gobeil, on Sept 16, 2024.
In his early years, he grew up on the farm in the French community of Beaumont, Ab with his parents Lawrence and Juliette, and his three siblings Evelyn, Roland and youngest brother, Eugene. He remained on the farm while attending NAIT, where he graduated from the Electronics program. His education led him to his long time career and passion as an electronics engineer. He started his career at CBC in south Edmonton and after a few years, he moved onto a brand new endeavour with CITV Edmonton, as broadcast engineer, specializing in the care and operation of the news department equipment. There he spent 26 years honing his master craft. He retired for 4 years and chose to return to work, putting in another 10 years in a related career, conducting calibrations. There he found and formed new friendships, enjoying the time that he spent there.
During his early time at ITV, he met his spouse Susan, and they had a son, Jean (TJ). Throughout the years, we enjoyed many camping, ski trips and time at the lake, together with friends, family and colleagues, Mexico was a favored winter vacation. Victor was an avid cyclist (to work every day, what a trooper), he also enjoyed his many motorcycles over the years. He enjoyed learning new things, and was an electronics master and awesome craftsman.
A memorial gathering is to be held at a later date, to share stories and celebrate his life. Victor leaves behind his beloved family, Susan and son Jean, his 3 siblings, many nieces and nephews, friends and colleagues.
May you rest in peace, my love.
Having worked with Victor for five years, I will never forget all the knowledge he passed on to me, his clever wit, and his charm.
Miss you, old pal.

I know Victor from my time at Accutech Rentals Ltd. where we worked together for years. He was a good colleague.
Words cannot express how saddened we are to learn of your loss. Please accept my sincere condolences.
I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. Wishing you peace during this difficult time.
Just found out about my coworker and good friend passing. He was an absolute gem. One of a kind. There were no technical challenges that he wouldn’t take head on. He was a crazy hockey player, softball player, skier, motorcycle rider. Although I have not seen him in a while I will miss him dearly.
A gentle soul with a great sense of humor and a consummate professional in all his work. Vic always left people with a smile on their face and he will be sadly missed.
I’m so so sorry to hear about Victor’s passing. He always brought a smile to my face when us cousins got together along with laughter. Victor will definitely be missed.
Condolences to his family
I always looked up to Victor as he was always smiling and made you laugh when you met him. Always put 100 percent with everything he did.
He will be remembered.
I am very sad to hear of Vic’s passing he was always so strong and full of life. His passion for his job at ITV and always had a smile and positive outlook. I enjoyed the occasional golf game with Vic although he had a very unorthodox swing he made it work. Will always remember him,my condolences to his family
Played fastball with Vic on the ITV Lemmings for years. Lots of fun on the team bus. He was a decent ball player. Great memories.
I am so sorry to hear of Vic’s passing. Vic was a great colleague, and a dear friend. May he rest in peace.
Heartfelt condolences and sympathy to Susan and Jean on the passing of Vic. Vic was an amazing teacher and mentor early in my broadcast career. To this day I credit him for his willingness to support and teach when I met him in the RDTV days of my career. He always answered phone calls and emails with a joke and support. Vic was funny, warm and I loved crossing paths at an Elks game or when I would see him fly by on his bike.
I am crushed to hear this news. Vic was an absolute legend who made coming to work so enjoyable and tons of fun. And, he was so brilliant, able to build or fix anything.
When I first arrived at ITV in 1994, Vic scoured the scrap heap to put together a camera and record deck so I could have my own rig, eliminating the need to constantly borrow gear from someone else. I hope he knew how much I appreciated that level of care and effort.
Vic’s great attitude and skills are unmatched but it’s his humour and tremendous laugh I’ll miss the most. So many stories were shared in that old camera lounge. We were lucky to have Vic camped out in his workshop adjoining the lounge so he was always available to fix anything on a moment’s notice. As an automotive enthusiast, I enjoyed our many conversations about go-fast gear like his bikes and GTA Firebird, or the gutless 454 in the Stealth live truck.
My sincere condolences to Sue and TJ, and the rest of Vic’s family and friends. May his memory be eternal.
This is a tough one. I have so many fond memories of Vic during my ITV days and the laughs we all shared in that dusty, dirty camera lounge. Vic was a physical specimen and, to the best of my knowledge, the faster runner on skates …which earned him the name Crazy Legs on our hockey team. And while he did have a crazy side, nobody knew how to fix cameras like Vic. Nobody. We were spoiled to have him as a colleague and privileged to enjoy his loud, emphatic bursts of laughter during our endless, meandering conversations in that same dingy lounge. RIP my friend.
This news was very sad to hear. Condolence to the family. Vic was well known to the Global Calgary tech team. As mentioned by others he would always share his knowledge, thoughts, ideas and helped me with supporting news in Calgary. I still have a photo of Vic when he brought the ITV mw truck Stealth down to Calgary. No one had a head of hair like Vic in those days!
Very sad to hear about Vic. Worked with him for 4 years at ITV and he really was excellent at his job. No problem was to big for him to handle. Vic also had a great sense of humour. My condolences to Susan, TJ and family.
