Dennis George Carlyle
Dennis George Carlyle, a gentle soul with a heart of gold, peacefully passed away on November 22, 2024, at the age of 71.
Born on a crisp January day in 1953 in Moncton, New Brunswick, Dennis was the cherished son of George and the late Elaine Carlyle of Kingston, Ontario. He was the beloved brother of David Carlyle, who resides in Vancouver, British Columbia, with his husband Christopher.
Dennis found joy in simple pleasures, such as losing himself in a good book, capturing the world through his camera lens, or strumming a tune on his guitar. His pursuit of knowledge led him to earn a Master’s degree in English from Queen’s University. After university, he moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, and later to Edmonton, Alberta. He lived a quiet life, discovering new hobbies such as stamp and coin collecting, and always had keen observations to share on the state of the modern world.
Dennis will be deeply missed by his loving family, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and all who knew him.
Instead of flowers, donations may be made to Humanist Canada.
Dear George and David,
What a beautiful tribute to a dear son and brother. I remember Dennis fondly as a very young boy in 1958 when Mom & I stayed at the Carlisle home for a year following my Dad’s passing. We have had very little opportunity to meet since then. However, I know the loss of a child and brother will be very sad for both of you. Please accept our condolences and love. Paul & Diane K.
Thank you so much Diane, and Paul.
Dear David & Uncle George,
I was greatly saddened to hear of the passing of my dear cousin Dennis. Although we have not crossed paths in a long time, I have fond memories of him from when I was a child and younger person. One memory I have is of him obtaining tickets to a Bob Dylan concert and inviting me to go along with him. I was very excited to be attending a BD concert with my cousin whom I looked up to and thought was very cool. He lived in Ottawa and came to Montreal by bus in the midst of a huge blizzard. My dad and I picked him up at the bus and my dad very kindly drove us downtown through driving snow. Anyway, I have vivid memories of sitting alongside Dennis at the forum in Montreal. My condolences to you both and thanks Dennis for this cherished memory❤️.
What a great memory to share, and Bob Dylan no less. My first concert as a teenager was also with Dennis. Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention. I’m pretty sure it was in Ottawa, 1970. Being just 2 years older than me he had a great influence on my introduction to music at the time. Thanks for the memories Valerie.
Thanks Dave🙏
