Drake Eli Rayment
I adore his smile, cherish his hugs, and admire his heart. But most of all, I love that he is my son.
Drake Eli Rayment left us suddenly in the early hours of October 22, 2024, at the young age of 28. Born on August 3, 1996, in Lac La Biche, Alberta, Drake was a soul full of heart, leaving behind an enduring impact on everyone lucky enough to know him. His years, though brief, were filled with love, laughter, and joy.
Although he spent most of his life in Edmonton, Drake held a deep connection to the country, where he found peace and fulfillment. He spent cherished moments at his grandparents’ farm in Hylo and with his family in Christy Creek. He had a love for the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and riding his quad. He especially took pleasure in taking the dogs for walks, exploring off-leash parks around the city and his favorite places on the farm. Being in nature brought him happiness, and he looked forward to moving to the farm in the coming days.
Drake’s school years were marked by his passion for hockey. Although he started playing later than most, he quickly became a valued team member and eventually joined the Maple Leafs Athletic Club. He attended Archbishop O’Leary Hockey Academy, and he could often be found at the rink playing shinny after school or on weekends, honing his skills whenever he could. Even the coldest days couldn’t keep him from playing. Summer brought ball hockey and street hockey. For many years, the street in front of his home was his favorite “arena.”
Drake was rarely seen without a loyal group of friends by his side. His friendships were treasured, and he gave and received unwavering support. Some of his most joyful memories came from shared adventures: a trip of a lifetime to Thailand with his best friend, Ryan, and unforgettable trips and gatherings with his closest friends.
Drake’s love for animals, especially dogs, was unmistakable. His gentle nature extended not only to his own companion, Lucy, but to all animals he encountered. His affection and kindness left a lasting impression on his loved ones, both human and furry, creating a void that will be felt by many.
Drake’s warmth and kindness also shone through with the children in his life. His playful spirit was especially evident at Thanksgiving this year, where he was the center of his niece's, nephew's and younger cousins' attention, engaging in food fights and giving in to their endless calls to “do it again” as he cat-walked and got stuck in the mud with his new Renegade. His warm, heartfelt laugh will forever echo in our hearts.
Drake is survived by his loving mother, Barbara, stepfather Dean, father Glen, brother Chad, stepsisters Ashley (Cody) and Amanda (Jeremy), his nephew Bennett, and niece Waylynn, grandparents, Helen & Gordon, as well as his aunts, uncles, and cousins. His beloved Lucy and a vast circle of friends also hold him close in their hearts. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ken and Sandra, and his uncle Jimmy.
Our lives are forever changed. He will be deeply missed.
There is this boy who holds my heart. He calls me Mom - also known as his “Equipment Manager.”
A celebration of Drake’s life will be held on November 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Beverly Heights Community League, 4209-111 Avenue, Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Edmonton Humane Society (https://www.edmontonhumanesociety.com).
