Marjorie Ella Carroll
Marjorie Ella Carroll of Edmonton, passed away at the age of 93 after a brief illness on May 25, 2023 at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton.
Marjorie is survived by four children: Dan (Kristin), Marianne (Bob), Tom (Yvette), Sandra (Hermann); her grandchildren: Catherine (Randi), Max (Michelle), Leo (Emily); her great grandchildren: Grayson and Isla, Lucas, Rowan and Ellie, Freya; her brother Don Chernichen (Nina) and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years Charles William (Bill) Carroll, her son David, her brothers George and Bill, and her sister Carol.
Daughter of Hazel and William Chernichen, she was born on January 12, 1930 in Edmonton, Alberta. She attended Old Strathcona High School in Edmonton and left to begin working as a secretary in 1945. She worked at the Board of Health, at City Hall and for many years at Cessco. Her last job was with MLA Weslyn Mather.
Marjorie was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and in later years, the Red Hat Ladies. She loved doing crafts (macrame, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, sewing and quilting) and became an accomplished painter after retiring in 1995. Camping was one of her favourite activities with her husband, Bill, who made the best home-made wine just for her. She was also an avid bridge player, reader and movie fan. Volunteering at South Edmonton Senior Association, mentoring other seniors on computer skills, was a passion of hers that made us very proud. She will always be remembered for her ageless beauty, dry sense of humor, quick wit and never-ending to-do lists. May we rest in peace.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church 7508-29 Avenue NW Edmonton on August 12/, 2023 at 2:00 pm.
