Nicholas (Nick) Sederquest
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son, father, brother, nephew, uncle and cousin Nicholas (Nick) William Douglas Sederquest, December 26, 2023 in Edmonton, Alberta.
Nicholas was born October 12, 1986 in Barrie, Ontario bouncing into this world ready to take it on, no matter what challenges life had in store for him. When Nick was 9 years old he moved with his parents from Barrie to Cape Breton Island growing up in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia.
Nicholas was predeceased by his beloved father Wayne Sederquest, his Grandmother Alice Sederquest, his Nanny Betty Anthis, Uncles William, Bobby, Russell, and Hayes Sederquest and Uncle Leo Robinson.
Nicholas is survived by his loving Mother Kim Pye and Step Dad Freddy, Son Yurik Simpson of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Sisters Shelly Anthis and Diane Briggs, Nephews Robert (Natalie), Luke, Niece Zoe, Great Nephew Oliver and his big Uncle Nick.
Forever loved by Aunt Sheryl (Leo), Cousins Nick (Cara), Keith (Adriana), Micheal (Candace) Robinson Leah (Sheldon) Whitty, Jennifer and Bria. Missed by many extended cousins across Canada. Nick accumulated many life long friends along the way in life especially friends Adam, Ryan Kenneth, Troy and his work mates.
Always game for an adventure, Nick truly loved working all over Canada as a heavy equipment operator especially working in northern Canada. He truly loved these locations working with his work buddies. Nick loved the outdoors, camping, new opportunities and was a strong part of our family, lighting up any room with his smile. Always willing to roll up his sleeves or give you the shirt off his back to help out, Nick lent many a hand to those he encountered and cherished in life.
A dedicated hard worker, Nick travelled most of his adulthood across Canada to some of the most remote areas for work always coming home with a good story or two with a boisterous laugh and a knee slap.
Nick’s positive attitude was a blessing during the hardest times. Nick dedicated his life to his son Yurik who Nick cherished more then anything in this world aside from his own Father Wayne, who was taken far too soon from Nick’s life as a young boy.
Nicks favourite times were spent with his own son Yurik, their walks, talks, trips and swimming were highlights of Nick’s stories as he lit up recanting their adventures to his family.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the two gentleman who were quick to help Nick when he needed assistance the most until emergency personal arrived. Special thanks to the people who made connections to assist in this news reaching our family, we will be forever grateful. We may have never known otherwise which would have been the deepest heartache.
Nick will be missed beyond measure, always in our hearts and will live on in his son each day. In the spirit of Nick and his memory if you see someone who needs help, please help. Never underestimate the power of a smile to change someone’s day or the bond between a parent and child, it’s powerful. Nick will missed by his son Yurik and Nick’s Mom, Kim the most.
Cremation has taken place and Nick is on his way home to his Mom and Son. Nick’s Funeral will take place in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia with details to be confirmed and shared at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks if you’d like to please make a donation to a charity of your choice or look towards good deeds in memory of our beloved Son, Dad, Brother, Nephew, Cousin and friend, Nick Sederquest.
