Stanley William Peterson
“Many years, and a lot of water flows.
You live your life, old memories go.
Then you hear a song that makes you stop.
Old memories of you are never forgot.”
⁃ Stan Peterson
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Stanley William Peterson on February 26th, 2025, in St. Albert, Alberta, at the age of 60. Stan was born on May 8th, 1964, in Newcastle, New Brunswick, to Spurgeon and Gay (London) Peterson.
As a young man, “Stan the Man” was known as the jokester and the fighter— always laughing and joking and fiercely loyal to his family. He would never back down from a fight. Even in his older years, he was still the same strong-willed fighter like his father with a big heart like his mother.
On his 18th birthday, he got his trucking license, and Stanley “Roper” aka “Stan the Drifter” had been driving ever since. He traveled through every province and territory in Canada and 49 of the 50 states in the US. With a legacy spanning 42 years of truck driving, Stan lived on hard work, making people laugh, family, and Jesus.
He was brought up in the church and always had his mind set on Jesus. Stan loved the old hymns and old country music like George Jones and Waylon Jennings. He was also known to write his own songs from time to time and believed he would make it big someday writing music.
Stan spent as much time as he possibly could with his Uncle Harold. He had many fond memories of times spent with Harold— he was one of his favourite people in the world along with his parents. In his own words, Stan had said, “Some say Harold and I were a pair of outlaws; we were just a couple of big hearts that loved to make jokes and laugh.”
In his recent years, he lived a simple life in his truck, driving on the ice in the Arctic. He always appreciated the spectacular views and was happiest on the road.
His goofy jokes and loving smile will be severely missed.
Stan leaves behind his fiancé, Chantelle Trottier, his 3 children: Cody Peterson (spouse Ashley Biddington), Sarah Peterson (spouse Geremy Carter), and Alicia Hossack (spouse Tim Fisher); 7 grandchildren: Cloe and Ryan Peterson, Zachary and Alaina Carter, and Matthew and Michael Pitre and TJ Fisher; sister Gladys Young (spouse Russell Morgan), brother Stephen Peterson, brother Sterling Peterson (spouse Leah Peterson), and brother by choice, Dave Hargreaves; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, Spurgeon and Inez Gay Peterson.
The family will be having a celebration of life memorial in the spring where he will be laid to rest with his three favourite people, his father and mother, Spurgeon and Gay, and his Uncle Harold, in the Upper Blackville Pentecostal Cemetery.
Our deepest condolences to Cody, Ashley and his family. May he RIP. ❤️🙏
Thank you. I’m Gladys his only sister and he was 11 months younger than me. 💕💕

We are so sorry for your loss. Sending our sincere condolences.
When we were kids, I always looked up to Stan , he was born with a strong work ethic, stood on his own 2 feet, I’m so sorry for you loss🙏
Chantelle and family – Sending our deepest condolences. Stan was a great friend to us for many years and we will miss his chats, stories and songs he wrote, and he had many. We worked in a lot of remote northern places over the years from the ice roads to the pacific coast in BC and one of Stan’s favorite places, the YUKON which he loved dearly and when he turned onto the Dempster Highway to travel to Inuvik, we would always pick on each other and say ”which one of us is going to get up Border Hill in the highest gear” .. We will miss you Stan. Rest in peace brother – Sharon and Mike
