Douglas “Doug” Meroslaw Babee

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas “Doug” Meroslaw Babee on Sunday, October 19, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer. Doug was a resident of Alberta Beach, Alberta, and a man whose presence brought joy, laughter, and music to all who knew him.

Doug was a hard-working, talented, and determined man. He was a well-known marine mechanic, lovingly nicknamed “the boat whisperer,” and took great pride in his skill and success in his craft. Doug was also a lifelong member of the Boilermakers Union, a testament to his dedication and work ethic. Music was such a large part of his identity, and he could play any instrument he set his mind to, always sharing his gift through live performances whenever he could. He was infamous for making up silly songs on the spot or humorously changing lyrics to songs he loved, and he loved telling jokes—so much so that he often laughed harder than anyone else, sometimes to the point of tears. When Doug wasn’t working or playing music, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and the great outdoors. If you knew Doug, you also knew that he took great pride in his yearly tomato garden. His love for his dog Dixie was profound, and her passing shortly before his own left a very deep mark on his heart. She had been by his side through some of the hardest and happiest times in his life, always providing comfort, companionship, and unconditional love. Doug took her with him everywhere he went, sharing his days and adventures with her by his side, and their bond was a source of joy and strength throughout his life.

Doug is survived by his devoted spouse, Ruth; his children, Landice (Steve), Brandy (Michael), Cortney, and Mikey; his cherished grandchildren, Nashville, Decia, Bodhi, Sophiya and Halen; his parents, Bud and Tillie; and his siblings, Susan (Scott, predeceased), Brian (Colleen), and Dwayne (Rita).

A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at Killarney Community League on November 16, 2025, from 2-6pm. Friends and family are invited to join us in remembering and honoring his incredible life.
