It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Greg Cronkright on March 2, 2026, one day before his 70th birthday.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Ann, son Ian and sisters Phyllis and Pieper (Brian), in-laws Jill (Orest) and Eric (Dawn) as well as nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers. He was predeceased by his parents Douglas and June, son Bryant and brother-in-law Terry.
Greg was born in Belleville, Ontario where he developed a lifelong love of the outdoors. He lived with his family in Edmonton, Jasper and Chestermere, Alberta. Fishing, golfing, gardening and walking his beloved dogs were some of his favourite activities. Greg was known for his generosity with his garden harvest, a helping hand whenever needed and his opinions (politics, government waste and bargain hunting were among his favorite topics). Efficiency was always top of mind for Greg. More important than his golf score was the speed of the round. He was enthusiastic in sharing tips with other drivers and road construction crews.
He started his over 40-year career with CN Rail as a Janitor at the CN Tower in Edmonton. He served as a Trainman in Jasper, Locomotive Engineer on the Mountain Region, Fuel Partner, Trainmaster, and Operating Practices Instructor. Finally, he used his expertise to analyze rail incidents with the Transportation Safety Board. In retirement he enjoyed spending winter months in Arizona where he adapted his gardening and renovation skills to his desert home.
We are grateful for all the incredible care he received at the Cross Cancer Institute, a well as the Misericordia and University of Alberta Hospitals. At Greg’s request there will not be a memorial service. But we suggest planting a new vegetable or flower this spring or making a donation to an animal shelter in his memory.
Always enjoyed my time working with Greg, many laughs and great conversations just an all around good guy. See you on the other side brother.
I have been trying to leave a message and not sure if it went through?
I am Greg’s cousin and feeling so very sad for everyone…my message that was sent I thought this morning I can’t seem to verify.
Please know that Phyllis and Peiper are in my heart and I will continue to reach out. Much love Deb and Gord Troy
Greg was always a fair and honest man …
My Condolences to the entire family

Expressing the worth of an individual should never be judged by what he had or even by what he did, rather it most definitely should be for what he meant to all of his peers! Judgement day has arrived much sooner than expected…….I truly believe Greg passed the opinion poll with flying colours! Rest easy old buddy; you certainly deserve the honour of graduating to the “well done” class of LIFE…….Personally, it was such a pleasure to have known you and to call you my friend…….
Our hearts go out to all of you, especially Pieper & Brian, Ann, Ian, Jill and Eric and families. May you be at peace. He is no longer in pain. Brenda (nee Bruce) & hubby, Don
