It is with extreme sadness and profound heartache that we announce the passing of Kathy Lynn Merrison, 64, of Edmonton, following a valiant battle with lung cancer. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
Kathy was a bright light in this world. Her love radiated through everything she did, whether caring for animals, spending time in nature, or being with family and friends. Wherever she went, her warmth, beauty, and contagious laughter lit up every room she entered. Those who knew Kathy will remember her as generous, hardworking, and deeply strong, both in body and in spirit. She carried herself with quiet grace and always put others first.
Kathy was born in Elrose, Saskatchewan on Christmas Day in 1961, the second child of Bill and Gwen Merrison. She and her older brother Curtis and younger sister Becky were raised in Kyle, Saskatchewan, before moving to Edmonton, Alberta in 1972.
Kathy graduated from Strathcona Composite Highschool in 1978 and went on to have a wonderful career with the city of Edmonton at the Muttart Conservatory. Kathy loved her job and made many lifelong friends. She especially enjoyed curating an outstanding, one of a kind, gift shop. After 25 years of pensionable service she had a second career managing the gift shop at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. Kathy made such a positive impact on customers and staff alike. You couldn’t help but be happy talking to her or even just seeing her beautiful smile.
Though Kathy was dedicated to her career and incredibly conscientious, it was her family that came first. Her sons: Kevin, Ian and Sean were the absolute, light of her life. Family meant everything to Kathy and she meant everything to them.
Kathy will be forever cherished and remembered with enduring love by her children: Kevin(Sara), Ian and Sean(Abbey); grandsons: Liam and Nathan; brother: Curtis; sister: Becky(Clay); nieces: Maxime, Renna(Jack), Brooklyn and Lynae(Roy) and many other family and friends. She is predeceased by her husband: Randy Rasmussen, parents Bill and Gwen Merrison and nephew: James Merrison.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date with close family and friends.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Edmonton SPCA or your local animal shelter.
I have so many memories of the best lady I have ever known. Some people live their whole life through and never find a friend like you.I will miss our laughs and so many other things. To the Merrison family my thoughts are with you.
Thank you Ardy.
I am so sorry to hear of Kathy’s passing. She truly was a shining light who lit up life with her love and laughter. I have many great memories of her joy and endless ability to see the good in everything around her. Her laugh was contagious and her energy lifted up everyone she met. She will be missed, but the memories I have will bring joy forever.
I was lucky enough to work with Kathy at the Stollery Children’s Hospital- she was exceptionally lovely, caring and and just a joy to work with. I could always count on hearing her super distinct laugh and a smile on her face, no matter how tough things got. She was always the optimist, and had so many loving stories about her sweet boys (and Liam of course). She always went the extra mile for everyone, and was a beautiful soul. I was glad to have had the chance to meet her and work with her, and she was so wonderful. I”m so sorry for your loss.
Curtis and Family. I had the ultimate pleasure of working with both you and your beautiful sister. Kathy was kind, and funny. She will always have a huge part of my heart. Her absence will be felt by many, as i know she touched many people and made their lives better by doing so. May the memories of her beautiful nature comforts you when she is missed the most.
thank you Jennifer

I am so sorry for your loss.
Kathy was a very special person in my family’s life.
with the recent passing of my mom I hope her and Kathy get the chance to see each other and laugh it up again.
They were very close through work and other groups like cooking and friends outside of their Muttart Conservatory family.
I remember meeting Kathy before her and Randy got married and raised their family.
Kathy was a hard dedicated worker to her family and employer.
she will be greatly missed.
God received another angel 😇
