On January 9, 2025, Alden Donald Heppner passed away at the William J. Cadzow Healthcare Centre in Lac La Biche at the age of 97.
Alden was born on February 12, 1927, and was one of four children. He grew up in the Hafford area of Saskatchewan, by Redberry Lake. When he was 12, the family made their way west to Alberta and settled in the Lac La Biche area. His early jobs had him behind the wheel, hauling logs from Kananaskis to Drumheller, with many white knuckled rides to tell. He became an accomplished, certified welder, a skill that became invaluable in his passion as an inventor on his farm. His many patented ideas, whether it was something new or to better existing equipment, kept him busy in his shop, and in his fields, when he wasn’t taking care of his cattle.
Alden is survived by his children- John (Anita), Andrew, Michael (Margarita); grandchildren- Merissa, Hunter-Lea, Elden; and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place, and he is buried at the McRae East Star Cemetery, beside his wife, Eva.
