Depending on the type of cremation and additional services you select, cremations in Edmonton can range from around $1025 to over $2000. At Value Cremations, we offer affordable cremation packages starting from $1040. We also offer comprehensive, full cremation processes online to ease your financial load. Provincial legislation does not mandate the use of a casket during a cremation. However, your crematorium may request that a coffin be used. The container does not need to be commercially-made or bought. However, funeral homes may set requirements for the combustibility and sturdiness of the materials.

In Alberta, individuals are required to obtain cremation permits from the provincial government. A signed death certificate, along with an authorization form, must also be obtained from the Medical Examiner’s Office. There are also restrictions on the types of materials that can be used for placing the cremated remains. Common materials include biodegradable constructs, such as cardboard, wood, bamboo, or plant-fibres.

We understand the importance of grieving a loss without worrying about your economic situation. Our crematorium provides an array of merchandise, including urns, containers, cremation jewelry, and keepsakes at various price ranges. To honour the passing of your loved ones, we also provide floral arrangement services for your home or at a memorial service.

A traditional cremation may include preparation work for funeral services, such as embalming and dressing the deceased for a memorial. A direct cremation or simple cremation has less work involved, as the deceased is cremated without a final viewing. For individuals who wish to have a basic cremation for their loved ones, Value Cremations offers affordable simple cremation packages, which include a basic urn, container, and cremation. We will also help you with the necessary permits, certificates, and documentation required for the process.

In Alberta, cremated remains can be buried, scattered, or placed in a cemetery, urn garden or columbarium. It is best to consider burial or interment options carefully beforehand, as there may be other considerations. For instance, those who wish to scatter remains should be mindful of the limitations in the preservation of the remains. Additionally, individuals are required to receive consent from the property owner before doing so.

Four items are required before cremation can take place:

Signed cremation authorization by the family (done directly online thru our website) Signed medical certificate of death from the attending physician Registration of death with Alberta Vital Statistics and consent from the Medical Examiner.

Once we have received the required documents, cremation takes 5-6 business days.

Rush/expedited cremation services are also available at an additional cost which allow you to pick up the cremated remains at our office within 2 business days of us receiving all necessary signed authorizations.

Cremation takes place at an Alberta licensed crematorium owned and operated by one of our partner funeral homes.
