💜 Bernice “Sis” Baker (Ryan)
It is with profound sadness that we share the sudden passing of Bernice “Sis” Baker (Ryan), who left us far too soon on November 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and later making her home in Spruce Grove, Alberta, Sis was the heart of her family — full of laughter, warmth, and kindness. Her smile was contagious, her laugh unforgettable, and her heart always open. She had a beautiful way of making everyone around her feel seen, valued, and loved.
Family meant everything to Sis. Her greatest joy in life was her two boys, Alex and Erik, who were the light of her world. She will be forever loved and missed by her husband Paul, her parents Ruth Hall and Bill Ryan (Leah), her sister Leann, her brother Billy (Tara), her nieces and nephew — Taylor, Brianna, Harrison, and Lindy, and her beloved Nan, Ruth Hall.
She also leaves behind a large extended family and countless friends whose lives she touched with her love and kindness.
She is also deeply missed by her in-laws — mother-in-law Kathleen Reynolds (Steve), father-in-law Art Baker, sister-in-law Karen West (Chad) and nephews Jake and Colin, and brother-in-law Shawn (Larissa).
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who has offered love and support during this heartbreaking time. A special thank you to the ICU team at Misericordia Community Hospital for their tremendous care and compassion for both Bernice and her entire family.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Spruce Grove, Alberta soon, with details to follow. A second celebration will take place in Newfoundland at a later date for her family and friends back home.
We’d like to close with Sis’s own words — a reflection of the beautiful soul she was:
“When faced with tragedy, life is put into perspective in a way nothing else can.
It reminds you to slow down, to breathe in the fresh air, to feel the sunshine, and to be grateful for every single day we get.
Life is such a gift — let’s not waste a minute on negativity or things that don’t fill us up.
Let’s live fully, love deeply, and be thankful for this beautiful life we’re given.”

Bernice had a beautiful way of spreading joy wherever she went. She was a truly kind hearted soul and her presence made life brighter for so many of us. May she rest in perfect peace. My heart is breaking at the loss of Sis. I recall sitting in Ruth Hall kitchen with Bun watching her take her first steps then being online watching her u/s with her boys.
