It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Elaine Taylor, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who left us on June 9, 2025, at the age of 77 years after a short battle with ALS.
Elaine was born in Bonnyville, Alberta on November 11, 1947, and grew up as the second oldest of twelve children in the farming community near Ashmont, Alberta. Her life was one of hard work, resilience, compassion, and deep love for her family.
Elaine dedicated her life to helping others. She worked as a waitress and later as a dietitian at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. In her semi-retirement, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of running a campground in the mountains at Wildhorse and Kinky Lake, near Hinton, Alberta. Elaine was truly in her element there—cutting trees, trimming grass, cleaning outhouses, and sitting by the campfires she so loved. Her strength and work ethic were unmatched, and her heart was always open to those in need of a good meal, cold beverage and unselfish love.
Elaine is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Rick; her daughters Karen Yakimchuk (Derek) and Kelly Baldock (Darren); her grandchildren Brandon Baldock (Rumour), Brieann Bly (Stephen), Tiffany Yakimchuk, Stephanie Yakimchuk (Daniel), and Dustin Yakimchuk; and her great-grandchildren Jace, Elizabeth, and Aliza. She also leaves behind numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Elaine was predeceased by her mother Maria, father George, brothers Richard, Lawrence, and David, and sister Helen.
Our hearts are broken, but we take comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering and has found peace. Her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, a testament to the immeasurable love she gave to all of us.
