Joyce Burton passed away at the age of 71 from cancer of the tongue and uterus. The cancer claimed her quickly, only months after being diagnosed. She was one of two children born in Calgary to Elsie (nee Ferster) and Richard Burton. She was a world traveller who lived in Edmonton working in the field of office administration. A very private person, with a big heart, she loved to garden, play golf, bowling and tracing her family tree. She gave of herself to help out individuals in need and nonprofit charities and will be missed. By her request, there is no funeral.
This saddens me greatly! I was privileged to get to know Joyce over the years one day at a time. This was due to her participation and support in the Crescent Heights HS of Calgary Charity Golf Tournament each June.
Joyce was traditionally the first entry each year and eagerly awaited the day. She would drive from Edmonton for the day in all kinds of weather over the years and arrive fresh and excited to play.
We will honour Joyce at this year’s event!
