Elke Dora Marie Hovind (Ludwig) 85, passed away peacefully in hospital on March 29th, 2025 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Kossau, Germany on July 11, 1939. She immigrated to Edmonton in the 1960’s where she continued her nursing career mostly at the University of Alberta Hospital. Elke enjoyed gardening, cooking and entertaining her many friends. She was predeceased by her husband Harold Hovind and is survived by her nephew Billy and his family in Switzerland.
I just found this out. So sorry to the Family. Oh my Dear Elke, such a kind, beautiful Soul & heart. I knew Elke since the early 80’s. I was her hairdresser for years. We had so much in common, I looked so forward to our fun visits. She was the big sister I never had. Her sense of humor had us laughing thru our appointment time. The other people in the shop would give us weird looks, which made us laugh harder. She was so thoughtful, by this I mean she never forgot my Birthday, which is today August 2/26. She would call me whether it was a holiday or workday. I’d look forward to our Christmas appointment as she would bring me homemade Stollen, very yummy. When she stopped driving I had offered to do home visits and she didn’t want me going that far. I will truly miss her beautiful face, her smile, and her laugh, and our times together will stay in my heart forever. Luv and miss you Elke
