Shane Embury
It’s hard to lose your best friend and husband. Sadly, Shane Embury passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on his 52nd birthday, September 19, 2025.
Shane was a quiet and private man, but once you got to know him, you discovered a warm heart, a sharp wit, and a deep love for his family. He was endlessly proud of his two sons – Christian ( Theo) and James ( Wong),and his wife of more than 20 years, Melanie – who shared his life, his laughter, and his dreams. Shane leaves behind his big brother Rich, his sister Susan (David), and his parents – Cliff and Ruth.
A devoted dad, Shane lived for his boys and for fishing. He took them out as soon as they could walk and hold a rod, teaching them patience, respect for nature, and how to appreciate the quiet moments on the water. Whether it was helping them learn to fish, drive, fix a car, or navigate life, Shane was always there with steady advice and an open heart.
Shane’s education was in Fish and Wildlife, which grew into a lifelong passion and hobby that he passed on to his sons. His main career was a blend of management and the lumber industry. He was respected for his hard work, reliability, and down-to-earth nature and worked side by side with many great people over the years: from early morning shifts with his wife in Gimli, alongside Ash, Brayden, Branden, and Subdoh. And later with his crew in Bonnyville: Carter, Xander, Joel, Mike, Marcus, John, Tyson, and Marty . All of who were usually the topic of his supper conversations, and always spoken with pride.
Shane had a rare gift for woodworking. He could look at a piece of lumber and see exactly what it could become. He built beautiful, practical things — corner coat racks, RV benches, sheds, and fishing rod holders — each one made with care and quiet pride. He was self-taught but remarkably skilled, and he loved creating things for others. He could always figure out a better way to do something, and his knack for problem-solving showed in everything he touched.
He was selfless and always thought of others before himself. He once even gave up a job to move to ensure Melanie could advance in her career. That was who Shane was: humble, kind, and generous to the core.
Shane loved his work at Co-op, where he got to know so many people who made up the better part of his day. He enjoyed his job and the camaraderie that came with it. Those who worked with him will remember his laugh, his warped sense of humour, and his genuine care for others.
In keeping with Shane’s wishes, there will be no formal service. His family will scatter his ashes at one of his favourite fishing spots, the place he felt most at peace.
For those wishing to honour his memory, donations may be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. And when you find yourself down by the water, watching the ripples dance in the sunlight, think of Shane…with a twinkle in his eye, a line in the water, and that quiet smile that said everything without a word.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Bonnyville EMS, the RCMP — Constables Xu and MacLellan, Serena Critch , and Donna Jubinville. Your kindness, compassion, and support during this difficult time has meant more than words can ever express.
Shane will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him — especially by those lucky enough to have shared his laughter, his stories, and his heart.
